South Australian Gazetted Deaths

Georgina Bliss

Searchable database of more than 5,000 deaths extracted from police reports in the South Australian Government Gazettes in the period 1845-1941, including the Northern Territory up to the end of 1910 when the Commonwealth Government took over its administration.

The search results may include surname, given name(s), any alternative name(s), date and place of death, and date reported.

Additional information may be found in the book and CD, available from Gould Genealogy.
When sufficient information exists, each record in the book/CD consists of surname, given name(s), date, cause and place of death, occupation, age, and origin of the deceased. In some instances, the date reported is given, indicating when the police received notice of the death or that the body had been found. A notes field includes details of circumstances relating to the deceased, some including date of arrival in Australia, and relatives' names and addresses. Additional information has sometimes been given from BDM registrations, Police Gazettes, newspapers and cemetery records. The list includes some deaths not individually recorded in the gazettes, but which were found to be associated with reported incidents, eg the wreck of the Clan Ranald.

If the death you require is not in this database you may wish to search the SA birth, marriage & death resources directory or the SA cemeteries directory for another source.
