World War I South Australian Servicemen Deaths
Bob and Leslie Jones
The World War I deaths of many South Australian servicemen who died overseas were registered with the South Australian Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Office, often years after their deaths. A database of these and other casualties who died soon after their return home is being compiled and is expected to take several months to complete. This database now contains about 4,700 servicemen out of the total of more than 5,500 who died. It includes, amongst others, members of the 10th, 12th, 16th, 32nd, 43rd, 48th and 50th Infantry Battalions of the Australian Imperial Force.
The search results include each serviceman's name; birth date & place; parents; residence, occupation & marital status when enlisting; service number, rank & unit; death date, place, age & cause; and cemetery where buried or commemorated. Some of this data is not available on the Australian War Memorial, Commonwealth War Graves Commission or National Archives web sites.
